The Cal State Northridge men’s cross-country team will put its No. 3 national ranking on the line today in the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. Division II West regional at Beau Pre Golf Course.

The top three teams in the men’s 10,000- and women’s 5,000-meter race qualify for the Division II championships in East Stroudsburg, Pa., on Nov. 18.

The top three individuals among the first 15 runners who are not on a qualifying team also qualify for the national championships.

Although Northridge is the second-ranked team in the region, the Matadors will have to be at their best to qualify. Seven of the nation’s top 12-ranked teams are entered, including top-ranked Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

The Northridge women--ranked fourth in the region and 11th in the nation--might be without the services of junior All-American Darcy Arreola, who injured her left foot in training Monday.

Northridge Coach Don Strametz said that a decision on Arreola would not be made until shortly before the race.

The women’s race begins at 9 a.m., followed by the men’s at 9:40.
