FULLERTON — Mike Pringle of Cal State Fullerton has been named the Big West Conference offensive player of the year by a vote of conference coaches.
Pringle led the nation in all-purpose yardage this season and finished second to Anthony Thompson of Indiana in rushing, averaging 157 yards a game.
Pringle led a group of six players from Fullerton’s record-breaking offense named to the first offensive team: quarterback Dan Speltz, receiver Rocky Palamara, offensive linemen Reggie Redding and Laita Leatutufu and kicker Phil Nevin.
Fresno State linebacker Ron Cox was named defensive player of the year.
Three Titans made the first-team defense: nose guard John Bavaro, inside linebacker Russ Oleyer and cornerback Terry Tramble.
