Mira Costa High won the Division I girls state volleyball championship by defeating Lynbrook High of San Jose on Saturday night, 15-11, 15-9, 15-4, at Titan Gym on the campus of Cal State Fullerton.
The victory, capping a perfect 27-0 season for the Mustangs, made Mira Costa the first team ever to win three state championships.
The Mustangs were losing 10-2 in the first game but then roared back to win, 15-11, led by Kristal Attwood’s four kills.
In the second game, Lynbrook once again took a lead, but Mira Costa took control and won on an ace by Piper Hahn.
