PREP ROUNDUP : History Repeats as Esperanza Edges Temple City

Share

Michelle Rullo scored a goal with about 18 minutes remaining to give Esperanza High School a 2-1 victory over Temple City Monday in the championship of the Cerritos girls’ soccer tournament.

The result was the same last year when the teams met in the championship game of the tournament. Temple City, the defending Southern Section 2-A champions, lost only that match last season. Temple City was undefeated before Monday’s meeting with Esperanza (10-1), a 4-A school.

Named to the all-tournament team were Rullo, Sherrie Bunte, Lynn Murray, who also scored in the championship match for the Aztecs, and Kathy Haerle, who assisted on Rullo’s winning goal. Midfielder Karen Van Winkle was named the tournament’s most valuable player.
