THE SIDELINES : Brad Gilbert on Davis Cup Team

NEW YORK —
Brad Gilbert will replace the injured Michael Chang in the first round of the Davis Cup against Mexico next month, the U.S. Tennis Assn. said today.
Chang, 17, ranked fifth in the world, is recovering in Placentia from a hip fracture suffered in practice last month.
Gilbert, the sixth-ranked player, has played for the U.S. Davis Cup team three times, winning both his singles against Mexico in 1986.
