COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapman Falls Short in 67-61 Loss

Chapman College, missing three key players, lost to Cal Lutheran, 67-61, in a nonconference basketball game Wednesday at Cal Lutheran. The victory was Cal Lutheran’s first of the season.

Chapman was without starting guards Chris Martin and Von Shuler, who are academically ineligible for at least the rest of the month. Darius Henderson, a reserve forward, missed the game because of a death in the family. Rog Middleton scored 24 and Andre Hill 20 for Chapman (7-5).

Cal Lutheran is 1-12.

In other nonconference basketball:

Southern California College 98, Cal State San Bernardino 74--Guard Rick Witmer scored 24 points and center Jeff Bickmore had 15 for visiting SCC (7-5). Elbert Davis added 12 for SCC.

Christ College Irvine 92, Whittier College 91--Chris Seiberts made two free throws with one second left to pull Whittier within one point, and William Haley stole the inbounds pass but didn’t get a shot off before the buzzer at Whittier. Kevin Kurz scored six of seven free throws in the second half and had 20 points and Jamie McShan had 31 points to lead CCI (7-9). Whittier College’s Whalen Elmore had 32 points to lead all scorers.

In nonconference wrestling:

Cal State Fullerton 21, Central Connecticut 13--Mike Grubbs (118 pounds) scored a 17-1 technical fall over Greg Evans for Fullerton (3-4) at home.

Cal State Fullerton 28, Ithaca 8--Fullerton won seven of 10 decision at home. Heavyweight David Jones improved to a team-best 11-2 with a 13-4 decision.
