Sweetwater 78, Southwest 56--Joe McDowell led No. 2 Sweetwater (15-1, 4-0) with 29 points, and Carlos Campbell added 24. Devin Patterson and Joe Cruz had 11 each for Southwest (4-13, 0-5).

Hilltop 80, Montgomery 34--Chris White scored 14 points, Carlos Gonzales 12, Ray Elkins 11 and Tim Minjaras 10 for host Hilltop (10-8, 3-2). George Scott’s 17 points led Montgomery (2-11, 0-5). Hilltop led after the first quarter, 31-6, and at halftime, 50-10.

Castle Park 54, Mar Vista 42--James Sandora had 20 points, nine rebounds and two blocked shots for host Castle Park (6-8, 3-2). Tim O’Neal led Mar Vista (2-13, 1-4) with 14 points.

Palomar League

Mt. Carmel 60, Poway 53--No. 1 Mt. Carmel (10-3, 3-0) led after the first quarter, 22-4, and host Poway spent the rest of the game playing catch-up. The No. 4 Titans (10-2, 1-2) cut the Mt. Carmel lead to 10 at the half, 34-24, but couldn’t finish the comeback.

“Mt. Carmel did a good job early,” Poway Coach Neville Saner said. “They ran the break well, and we didn’t defend well. They got right after us.”

Mt. Carmel surprised Poway by starting its big lineup--Shane Knight (6-feet-9), Ryan Wootton (6-4), Mike Graves (6-3), Jeff Blake (6-6) and Bill Wootton (6-3). Bill Wootton led Mt. Carmel with 17 points. Dana Pope had 14, and Knight had 11. Matt Fletcher led Poway with 16 points, including four three-pointers.

Torrey Pines 77, Orange Glen 51--The No. 3-ranked Falcons improved to 15-1, 3-0 in league. Orange Glen is 0-10, 0-3.

Fallbrook 80, Vista 64--Travis Teagle scored 26 points and Chris Miller 19 for visiting Fallbrook (10-4, 2-1). Sophomore guard Jason Barnes had 32 for Vista (3-8, 0-3).

Rancho Buena Vista 79, San Dieguito 69--Brad Grubaugh had a game-high 29 points for host RBV (6-6, 2-1), and Darryl Parker added 23. Matt de la Pena led San Dieguito (6-7, 1-2) with 17.

El Camino 78, San Pasqual 64--El Camino (10-5, 3-0) delivered a knockout punch early, taking a 21-6 lead. Standout Dee Boyer finally returned to the El Camino lineup after a knee injury and scored 11 points. Shaun Scurry led El Camino (10-5, 3-0) with 20 points, Travis Gilley had 16 and Glen Ankton 13. No. 7 San Pasqual (8-5, 1-1), which was without Eric Meek (strep throat), was led by Bryan Banner’s 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Ramona 66, Escondido 58--Spanish exchange student Alfonso de la Nuez scored 27 points, including five-for-five shooting from three-point range, as Ramona improved to 9-2, 2-1 in the league. Travis Knight, a 6-8 sophomore, had 13 points and 16 rebounds. Tyler Sommer scored 19 points for Escondido (3-7, 1-2).

Oceanside 41, Carlsbad 39--With two seconds left, Oceanside Coach Steve Kinder put Nacho Adame in, and it paid off; he hit a 17-footer at the buzzer to give host Oceanside (7-8, 1-2) the victory. Carl Mathis held Carlsbad’s leading scorer, Calvin Coleman, to just four points. Mark Tague led Carlsbad (4-8, 1-1) with 17.
