HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Early Goals Lift Harvard in Boys’ Soccer

David Moran and Andrew Weiss of Harvard High scored in the first 13 minutes to spark the Saracens (10-2-3 overall, 3-0 in league play) to a 2-0 win Thursday over rival Chaminade in a San Fernando Valley League match at Harvard.

Rob Faucett recorded five saves, including a penalty kick, in holding off Chaminade (5-7-1, 1-1-0).

In another boys’ match:

L.A. Baptist 6, Montclair Prep 1--Ron Simpson scored two goals to lead L.A. Baptist, which improved to 12-1-2 overall, 3-0 in the Alpha League.

Kurt Rayners, Jeff Bjork, Paul Berry, and Dan Stepper each had goals for L. A. Baptist, the top-ranked team in the Southern Section Small Schools Division. Chris Ferebee had the lone goal for Montclair Prep (0-2).

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Birmingham 4, Cleveland 0--Erin Saltzman scored all four goals as Birmingham improved its Valley League record to 3-2. Birmingham’s Katrina Engel recorded her third consecutive shutout and Anna Agapio and Cristina Cavallero each had two assists.

Alemany 1, Notre Dame 0--Angela Forstrom scored for the Indians (8-5-2, 2-0 in league) in a San Fernando Valley League match at Notre Dame.

WRESTLING

Harvard 60, Chaminade 12--Harvard recorded pins in every weight class and improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the San Fernando Valley League.

Harvard’s Robert Pearlstein (145 pounds) pinned Ben Choy in 2 minutes, 45 seconds to improve to 16-4. Josh Rodine (112) pinned Dave Schrogen in 47 seconds to improve his record to 5-2.

El Camino Real 34, Canoga Park 29--Greg McMurray (119 pounds) improved to 16-0 as El Camino Real extended its Valley League record to 1-0 and overall mark to 15-1.
