CENTURY LEAGUE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Foothill Finishes Off Canyon by Scoring Final 12 Points

Foothill High School took over sole possession of first place in the Century League with a 52-46 victory over Canyon Friday night at Foothill.

Canyon led, 46-40, with 5:25 to play, when the Knights (11-6 overall, 3-0 league) began their rally, shutting out the Comanches the rest of the way.

Trailing, 46-44, with 3:37 left, Foothill’s Fred Amos scored the game’s next six points. Amos delivered the knockout punch with 57 seconds left with a slam to give the Knights a 50-46 lead. He finished with 13 points.

Mark Wilkinson had 14 points and reserve Erik Gilbertson added 12.

“I was concerned because they hurt us defensively with some good picks and they got some easy baskets,” Foothill Coach Jim Reames said.

Kevin Wilborn did most of that damage with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Eric Oliver added 12 points for Canyon.

El Modena 81, Santa Ana Valley 51--Jeff Leedom had 24 points and Greg Gottlieb had 22 to lead visiting El Modena ((10-7, 2-1). Sean Wilson had 14 points to lead Santa Ana Valley (4-9, 1-2). El Modena had 17 free throws to Santa Ana Valley’s two in the second half.
