COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Christ College Irvine Wins, 70-67
Kevin Kurz scored 24 points and Albert Gay had 18 to lead Christ College Irvine to a 70-67 victory over Cal Baptist in a Golden State Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Tuesday night at Christ College.
Gay’s basket with 17 seconds remaining gave Christ College a one-point lead. David Solomons of Cal Baptist then missed two free throws after being fouled with two seconds left. After rebounding Solomons’ second miss, Kurz was fouled and made two free throws.
Christ College improved to 10-11 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Warren Daniels had 21 points and Neil Zwart and Donald Wilkins each had 17 for Cal Baptist (7-10, 0-2).
Fresno Pacific 92, Southern California College 88--Terry Scruggs scored 20 points, but missed a last-second jumper in regulation for visiting Southern California College (10-7, 1-2). Dave Heidebrecht made two free throws to tie it, 80-80, with 35 seconds left.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. women’s basketball:
Fresno Pacific 70, Southern California College 54--Mary Beth Detrick scored 23 points to lead host Fresno Pacific (7-9, 1-1). Nora Menken scored 22 points for Southern California College (8-7, 1-1).
