GIRLS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : La Quinta Gains 46th Consecutive League Victory
The La Quinta High School girls’ basketball team keeps rolling. Paced by senior center Amy Jalewalia’s 33 points and seven rebounds, La Quinta defeated visiting Los Amigos, 64-30, Wednesday for its 46th consecutive victory in Garden Grove League play.
La Quinta, which improved to 15-2 overall and 6-0 in league play, also was sparked by Heather Brannan, who had 11 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.
Los Amigos was led by Carrie Elsaesser, who had 12 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocked shots.
In other Garden Grove League games:
Kennedy 71, Garden Grove 64--Senior guard Michelle Harris had 30 points and seven steals and junior guard Valerie Ruiz had 18 points, four assists and four steals to lead host Kennedy (8-8, 4-2). Freshman forward Lynly Matsumoto had 12 points and 11 rebounds for Kennedy and Melanie Dear had 27 points for Garden Grove.
Rancho Alamitos 49, Pacifica 30--Jenny Newsome scored 15 points and Marlene Rodriguez 14 to lead host Rancho Alamitos (10-2, 5-1).
Santiago 37, Bolsa Grande 32--Becky Elcock had 17 points and Pricilla Demuth had 13 to lead Santiago (5-10, 2-5) at home.
