Pasadena Topples El Camino, 110-102, in Double Overtime

Derek Brown made a pair of free throws with 33 seconds remaining to secure Pasadena’s 110-102 South Coast Conference victory over El Camino Wednesday night in double overtime.

The Warriors fell to 2-4 in the SCC and 17-8 overall while Pasadena, the league’s last-place team, improved to 2-3 and 12-13 overall.

El Camino held a small lead through most of the first half. Back-to-back three-pointers by freshman Michael Houck gave the Warriors a four-point edge with 12:18 left for the break.

But Pasadena led 28-27, with 5:52 left, after a pair of Ken Lawson free throws.

The Warriors went scoreless for the next three minutes and the Lancers capitalized, taking a 38-31 lead after a three-pointer by forward Chris Jones.

Pasadena’s Cornelius Edwards sank a pair of free throws, with 54 seconds remaining, to give the Lancers a 40-33 halftime lead.

A one-handed jam by El Camino guard Frank Beatty shaved Pasadena’s lead to one with 13:05 left in the game.

Five minutes later the Warriors took the lead, 67-66, after a three-pointer by Darius Dubose. The freshman guard followed the shot with a 10-foot jumper that gave El Camino a three-point edge with 6:58 left.

A five-point Beatty run, which included a lay in and a three-pointer, gave El Camino a 77-72 lead with 3:27 remaining. But Pasadena’s Lawson sank a pair of free throws to tie the game at 77-77 with 2:44 left.

A three-pointer by Keith Brown gave the Warriors an 81-79 edge with 23 seconds left, but Pasadena’s Brown made a pair of free throws to tie the score 81-81 with six seconds remaining.

The sophomore made the three-point shot that tied the score 93-93 at the end of the first overtime.
