Susan Hegerle, who for the past four years has been an assistant volleyball coach at San Diego State, will take over the University of San Diego women’s program, the school announced Wednesday.

Hegerle will replace John Martin, who had been the only coach in the 15-year history of the USD women’s program. He will now work as USD’s director of recreation and facilities.

While at SDSU, Hegerle and Coach Rudy Suwara guided the Aztecs to three NCAA Western Regionals in four years.

San Diego State announced that Tori Baker, a 5-foot-9 sophomore guard, will transfer from the University of Oregon. Baker played in just two games this season for Oregon, averaging three points and one rebound. Last season, she started 18 of 30 games and averaged 9.3 points a game after red-shirting her freshman year while recovering from an ankle injury. She will be eligible to play at SDSU after the 1990 fall semester.

The Fifth Slam-N-Jam dunk contest will be held March 23 at Mt. Carmel High School. Interested high school basketball players wishing to compete should talk to their coaches or call Mt. Carmel at 484-1180.
