Call it early-season seasoning.

The visiting Cal State Northridge men fell to Stanford, 15-11, 15-12, 15-5, in a Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. match Saturday in front of a crowd of 738.

“It was really difficult for our guys to create the enthusiasm and emotion that we’re used to playing with,” said CSUN Coach John Price, whose team was swept for the first time this season. “There was a good group of hecklers.”

Stanford (1-1, 1-0 in WIVA play), ranked second in NCAA Division I, had trouble with Northridge (3-4, 2-2) in the first two games. The first game was tied, 11-11, before the Cardinal scored four consecutive points. Neither team held a lead of more than three points in the second game.

“It wasn’t like it was bam, bam, bam,” Price said. “It was good sideout volleyball.”
