Grant 43, Birmingham 29--The Lancers outscored the host Braves, 13-5, over the last four minutes to break open what had been a close game as Grant (20-3, 10-0) completed East Valley League play undefeated.

Grant guard Keith Weinstein had 19 points. Forward Brian Bennett topped Birmingham (8-12, 5-5) with 10.

Sylmar 71, Poly 68--Senior forward Donovan Walker scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds, and teammate Keith Bright had 17 points and 13 rebounds for host Sylmar (11-12, 4-6) in an East Valley League game. Sylmar led by as many as 11 points in the first half, but Poly (2-19, 1-9) came back to take a one-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.

North Hollywood 80, Monroe 63--The Huskies outscored host Monroe, 24-7, in the third quarter to erase a four-point halftime deficit and claim a share of the Mid-Valley League title with Reseda.

Harry Marks scored a game-high 23 points and center Dana Jones scored 18. Robert Hill added 15 for North Hollywood (20-3, 8-2).

Monroe (4-15, 3-7) was paced by Jesse Wallace (19 points), Kenyon Wright (17) and Elmer Singh (12).

Reseda 66, Van Nuys 48--Marquis Wilborn and Mike Basowski scored 15 and 12 points for Reseda (12-8, 8-2) as the Regents clinched a tie for the Mid-Valley League title.

Canoga Park 62, Chatsworth 50--The Hunters used a relentless press to force 32 turnovers in a West Valley League game at Canoga Park.

Backcourt partners Marcus Reed and Jason Harper scored 19 each for the Hunters (10-13, 2-8). The victory marked the first time in six seasons that Canoga Park has won at least 10 games.

Thousand Oaks 65, Newbury Park 58--Thousand Oaks’ Chris Loll hit two three-point shots and Tony Siegel made a third to pace a 21-7 run in the pivotal second quarter of a Marmonte League finale. The win, and Westake’s loss to Channel Islands, forced a three-way tie for third place among the Lancers (12-11, 7-5), Westlake and Camarillo.

Loll finished with a game-high 21 points and teammates Mike Sandlin and Dusty Lysobey scored 10 each. Kevin Loveall led Newbury Park (7-16, 1-11) with 16.

Channel Islands 76, Westlake 59--Stephen Brown scored nine of his 25 points in the third quarter as the Raiders shocked Westlake, costing the Warriors sole possession of third place in the Marmonte League.

Leading, 24-21, at halftime, Channel Islands (8-15, 2-10) outscored Westlake, 24-12, in the third quarter. Shawn Young and Noe Noyola each added 12 points for Channel Islands. John Van Spyk had 25 for Westlake (13-10, 7-5).

Canyon 72, Saugus 57--Jon Civita scored 16 points and had 14 rebounds to lead Canyon (18-6, 7-3) past Saugus (6-16, 2-8). The victory gives Canyon a second-place tie with Palmdale in the Golden League.

Crescenta Valley 64, Arcadia 62--Crescenta Valley used a small lineup in a Pacific League game against visiting Arcadia, and point guard Lamar Breeding came to the fore with 18 points and nine assists.

Center Paul Matijasevic came off the bench and scored only six points, nearly nine below his average, but grabbed 10 rebounds. Bruce Jacobsen scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds for playoff-bound Crescenta Valley (15-8, 7-3).

Burroughs 108, Schurr 82--Burroughs had its highest point total of the season to end its perfect Foothill League season. Marnie Calderon scored 18 for Burroughs (16-6, 10-0), and Doug Castaneda added 17. Aaron Kovacs scored 22 points to lead Schurr (2-8 in league).

Alhambra 73, Burbank 52--Alhambra (19-5, 7-3) led by six at the half and then blew the game open in the final eight minutes in a Foothill League game. Hung Duong led a trio of Alhambra players in double figures with 23 points. Mike Palaski scored 12 points for Burbank (3-18, 2-8).

Harvard 74, St. Genevieve 56--Harvard and St. Genevieve completed mirror-image San Fernando Valley League seasons in which Harvard finished undefeated and St. Genevieve failed to win a game.

Rick Osterloh scored 31 points for Harvard (21-2, 10-0), and Andres Carlo, 11 points, was the only other scorer in double figures.

Dominic Muller scored 20 points for St. Genevieve (2-17, 0-10).

Chaminade 63, La Salle 51--Mark Mirkovich scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for host Chaminade (12-10, 6-4), which clinched third place in the San Fernando Valley League.

Notre Dame 76, Bell-Jeff 60--Forward Bobby DaCorsi scored 22 points to lead Notre Dame (13-10, 7-3) to a San Fernando Valley League victory over host Bell-Jeff (9-13, 5-5). Notre Dame led 33-28 at the half, and Bell-Jeff cut the deficit to 41-40 with three minutes left in the third quarter. But Notre Dame scored nine unanswered points.

Bryan Camacho scored 18 points to lead Bell-Jeff.

Santa Clara 64, Calabasas 51--Although Calabasas (10-12, 4-6) outscored Santa Clara (22-0, 10-0) in the second half, the Coyotes never moved closer than nine points after intermission. Shon Tarver scored 22 points to lead Santa Clara.

Moorpark 33, Carpinteria 32-- Senior Robert Hernandez converted a one-and-one situation with 14 seconds to play to give Moorpark a Tri-Valley victory at Carpinteria. Mike Granderson scored 15 and Brian Lester added 10 points and six assists for Moorpark (13-9, 7-3), which finished second in the league.

Village Christian 86, Maranatha 53--Matt Teachout scored 23 points and Rod Andersen added 21 to pace the Crusaders in an Alpha League game at Maranatha. Dan Downs contributed 11 points for Village Christian (8-14, 4-8).

Western Christian 51, L. A. Baptist 41--Glen Dodson (14 points), Alex Pistone (12) and Dan Shakelford (11) paced L. A. Baptist (8-14, 5-7) in a losing Alpha League effort.

Providence 59, Avalon 51--Sophomore point guard Bret Ferrante scored a career-high 20 points and made 10 of 10 free throws in a pivotal fourth quarter to lead the Pioneers (13-8, 8-3) to a Liberty League victory and their first playoff berth since 1985.

GIRLS

Hart 55, San Gabriel 37--Sophomore Anjanette Dionne scored 24 points and had seven steals to lead Hart (21-4, 10-0) to its 20th consecutive Foothill League victory.

Hart took a 10-point lead at halftime, but San Gabriel came back with two minutes left in the third quarter to cut the lead to 35-29. Dionne then made a three-point basket and the Matadors never caught up.

Highland Hall 45, West Valley Christian 12--Host Highland Hall clinched the Westside League championship, the school’s first since it began girls’ basketball in 1979, and won for the ninth time in its last 10 games.

Highland Hall’s Kristen Johansen led all scorers with 16 points. Monica Palma added 14 for Highland Hall (13-6, 4-0).

Van Nuys 73, Reseda 60--Van Nuys wrapped up an undefeated Mid-Valley League season despite Denisha Jordan’s 26 points and 10 rebounds for Reseda (2-8 in league play).

Canoga Park 60, Granada Hills 43--Soo Yoon scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed nine rebounds to pace the North Valley League champion Hunters (10-4, 6-0) at Granada Hills.

Taft 53, San Fernando 41--Down, 21-20, at halftime, the Toreadors switched from a 2-3 defense to a pressure 1-3-1 in the second half and held San Fernando (0-6 in league) scoreless for six minutes. Taft’s Julie Koppekin had eight of her game-high 18 points in the 16-0 run.

Alissa Tishler scored 13 and had eight assists and Colleen Pratt had nine points and 11 assists for Taft (7-7, 3-3).

North Hollywood 62, Monroe 30--North Hollywood (12-7, 8-2) featured the high-scoring duo of Jacinda Sweet (21 points) and Suzi Shimoyama (20), and cruised to a Mid-Valley League victory at home.

Tina Ishimaru scored 11 points for Monroe (2-8 in league), which trailed 31-9 at halftime.

Grant 63, Birmingham 42--Grant built a 21-point halftime lead in an East Valley League game at home.

Karla Parade scored a game-high 26 points, and Monique Young added 14 points for Grant (9-5) (5-1). Gayle Fischer led Birmingham (2-4 in league) with 15 points.
