SOUTHERN SECTION SOCCER PLAYOFF ROUNDUP : Viloria’s Hat Trick Sparks El Toro Girls

Share

Shawn Viloria scored three goals Tuesday to lead El Toro High School to a 3-0 victory over Corona del Mar in a second-round match of the Southern Section 4-A girls’ soccer playoffs.

“They weren’t the greatest goals,” Viloria said. “I just put ‘em in.” Viloria has three hat tricks and 30 goals this season.

El Toro (18-3-3) scored 10 minutes into the match on a penalty kick by Viloria. Although El Toro outplayed Corona del Mar (16-6-7) in the first half, the Chargers could not increase their lead by halftime. “We should’ve scored three goals by then,” El Toro Coach Bob Chavez said. In the second half, Viloria scored again by chipping in a short shot over goalkeeper Heather Warmington. Moments later, Viloria gave El Toro a 3-0 lead when she scored off a corner kick by Shannon Diablo.

“We were definitely the better team today,” Chavez said. “We played 80 minutes with a team that won their league and I don’t think we gave them a shot on goal in the second half. Right now they believe in themselves, and we’re playing the best soccer we’ve played all year.”
