HIGH SCHOOL BOYS’ BASKETBALL PLAYOFFS : DIVISION I

Sweetwater 96, Granite Hills 53--Top-ranked Sweetwater outscored visiting Granite Hills, 51-23, in the second half. John Gilbert scored 23 points and Joe McDowell added 19 for Sweetwater (26-1). Rob Shawcroft had 20 points for Granite Hills (10-16).

Mt. Carmel 84, Hilltop 72--Leading 17-13 after the first quarter, No. 3 Mt. Carmel outscored Hilltop, 29-16, in the second quarter. Shane Knights had 23 points and Mike Graves added 18 for Mt. Carmel (20-5). Hilltop (14-14) was led by Carlos Gonzales’ 29 points.

Poway 53, Morse 49--Poway trailed by six at the end of the third quarter but out-scored Morse, 20-10 in the fourth. Poway (18-6) was 22 of 29 from the free-throw line. Greg Sorrell and Bill Rarity each scored 10 points for the Titans.

DIVISION II

Valhalla 68, Escondido 49--Jason Lynch scored 19 points and Bryan Voshell added 12 points and 12 rebounds for Valhalla (20-8). This is the first time Valhalla has won 20 games.

University City 89, Carlsbad 68--Supe Hooper scored 23 points, Joel Mitchell added 18 and Chris Whitehead had 14 for University City (21-4). Calvin Coleman led Carlsbad (9-13) with 25 points.

Monte Vista 81, Oceanside 57--Joe McNaul scored 24 points, grabbed 20 rebounds and blocked nine shots and Jeff Polinsly added 28 points for eighth-ranked Monte Vista (17-6). Kenya Hunt led Oceanside with 15 points.

DIVISION V

Vincent Memorial 51, Borrego Springs 34--Vincent Memorial, which took a 20-12 halftime lead, was led by Mark Anderson who scored 14 points. David Hernandez scored 19 points for Borrego Springs (11-10).
