Corona del Mar Upsets San Diego Lincoln

John Paulsen of Corona del Mar High School scored 30 points to lead the Sea Kings to go to a 67-65 upset over second-seeded San Diego Lincoln in the first round of the Southern California Division III regional playoffs in San Diego.

Paulsen, a 6-foot-1 senior forward, lifted his team from a six-point deficit at the start of the second quarter to an eight-point lead, scoring Corona del Mar’s first 14 points of the quarter.

Corona del Mar made 16 of 18 free throws, Lincoln made 11 of 21. Jeff Jackson added 10 points for Corona del Mar.

Lincoln made a 10-4 run early in the fourth quarter and led, 57-55, with 4:34 to go. But Corona del Mar scored 10 of the next 14 points to take a 65-61 lead with less than a minute remaining.
