COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Reaches Semifinal at Channel Coast

Rancho Santiago had 19 hits to easily defeat Cosumnes River College of Sacramento, 10-3, in a quarterfinal game of the Channel Coast baseball tournament at Moorpark College in Simi Valley Thursday.
Jeff White and Sean Sterling each had three hits and scored twice to lead Rancho Santiago (26-5). Matt Lackie (9-2) pitched six innings to earn the win.
In nonconference baseball:
Fullerton 9, Long Beach 7--The Hornets (18-11) scored seven runs in the third inning to take a 7-4 lead and went on to win at Fullerton. Jim Short and Kevin Monson both had two-run doubles in the inning. Jeff Manship had a two-run single that broke a 4-4 tie.
In a semifinal of the Hancock baseball tournament in Santa Maria:
Cypress 8, College of the Canyons 7--Freshman Kevin Cook hit a two-run pinch-hit home run to tie the game at 6-6 in the fifth inning. In the sixth, Doug McConnathy and Tom Tuppe hit back-to-back doubles and Tuppe later scored on a sacrifice fly by Tom Acuna for what proved to be the winning run. College of the Canyons scored one in the ninth but Kenny Kendrena stranded three runners to earn his second save. Aaron Charlton (3-2) got the win for Cypress (19-14).
