COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapman Losing Streak Hits Five With 10-2 Defeat

Vale Lopez pitched a three-hitter and Cal State Northridge defeated Chapman, 10-2, in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. baseball game Friday at Northridge.
It was the fifth consecutive loss for Chapman (23-18, 13-9 in conference play), which dropped two games behind second-place Northridge (27-15, 14-6).
Denny Vigo had a two-run double in a three-run first inning and hit his 15th home run of the season in the sixth.
Lopez (7-4) retired the first nine batters and had seven strikeouts and three walks. Chapman’s Doug Yates hit a two-run home run in the fourth.
In Big West Conference baseball:
Cal State Long Beach 9, UC Irvine 2--Todd Guggiana went four for four with two RBIs and Don Barbara went three for four, including a two-run homer, and had four RBIs as Long Beach won the opening game of a three-game series at Irvine. The 49ers (28-17-1, 5-5) scored three runs in each of the third and sixth innings and took a 7-0 lead in the sixth. Fred Combs and Billy Bardens each had two hits for the Anteaters (26-19, 4-6).
In Big West Conference softball:
Cal State Fullerton 3-5, UC Santa Barbara 2-0--Charlotte Wiley hit a two-run triple in the first inning of the second game to help Fullerton (40-13, 18-7) sweep the doubleheader in Santa Barbara. In the first game, Mich DeBree was two for two with a double and Joy Tiner went two for three for the Titans.
In California Collegiate Athletic Assn. softball:
Chapman 1-2, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 0-4 (first game, 14 innings)--Jacki Blake (18-4) pitched a three-hitter for 14 innings and Sandy Olivas singled home Trina Honea in the first game for host Chapman.
