Valhalla 9, El Cajon Valley 5--Scott Lapinski had three hits and two RBIs and Greg Woodard had two hits and an RBI for Valhalla (12-11-1, 2-2).

Grossmont 3-A

El Capitan 9, Monte Vista 8--Greg Ransweiler scored on a wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to lead El Capitan (15-7, 3-0). Monte Vista is 14-9, 1-3.

Granite Hills 10, Helix 9--Granite Hills (15-7-1, 2-1) scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning as Tom Koontz drove in the tying and winning runs. Helix is 12-8-1, 1-2.

Palomar League

Mt. Carmel 8, San Dieguito 2--The game ended under protest with two outs and the bases loaded for San Dieguito. Tony Sanchez, who had re-entered the game to play defense in the top of the seventh after being replaced by a pinch-runner in the sixth, did not officially check in with umpire Gary Mickle until reminded to do so by Coach Jerry Clements while batting with the count 1-2 in the bottom of the inning. A disagreement over the rules ensued between Mickle, Clements and Mt. Carmel Coach Sam Blalock, ending with Mickle calling Sanchez out.

Torrey Pines 4, Poway 2--Shaw Henderson (4-4) no-hit seventh-ranked Poway for 5 2/3 innings before Ed Thompson hit a two-run homer. Henderson finished with a two-hitter and seven strikeouts. Preston Bynes hit a three-run homer for Torrey Pines (10-11, 1-6).

Orange Glen 8, Fallbrook 5--Jim Roby homered, then came on to pitch in the sixth inning to save the game for Damon Vinje and the Patriots (13-8, 4-3).

Rancho Buena Vista 15, Vista 4--Winning pitcher George Hadden (3-3) had four singles and two RBIs for RBV (10-10-1, 5-3).

Avocado League

Oceanside 14, El Camino 6--Terry Vaughn and Kenya Hunt each had three hits and three RBIs for No. 9 Oceanside (17-7, 5-2). El Camino is 9-9, 3-2.

San Marcos 10, Ramona 2--Winning pitcher Ryan Dunne (3-4) went two for two and scored twice for San Marcos (10-9, 4-3). Ramona is 4-14, 1-6.

Escondido 12, Carlsbad 5--The Cougars (10-9, 5-2) had nine extra base hits. Freshman Mike Frank drove in three runs, and Ted King allowed only one run in 5 1/3 innings of relief.

Coaches Named

Rancho Bernardo High School has added three varsity coaches for its opening next fall. Gary Bradshaw, golf; Tom Martin, girls’ soccer, and Ian Campbell, softball. Martin was the head girls’ soccer coach at Poway; Campbell was a Poway softball assistant.
