Notre Dame’s Orlando Collects Six Hits to Tie Southern Section Record

Vinnie Orlando, a junior second baseman for Notre Dame High, tied a Southern Section record Wednesday with six hits as he led the visiting Knights to a 22-5 rout of Harvard in a San Fernando Valley League game.

Orlando set the stage for his record performance with a single off first base. He added two singles and a pair of doubles and also hit a home run to left-center.

Orlando, who bats right-handed, finished with four runs batted in and four runs. He entered the game batting .277 and now has 24 hits in 71 at-bats for a .338 average.

Eight Southern Section players had collected six hits in one game entering this season. They include former Montclair Prep star Toi Cook, now a defensive back with the New Orleans Saints, and former Simi Valley standout Shaun Murphy.

Kevin Milligan, Steve Colella and Bruno Paniccia all had three hits for Notre Dame (14-10-1, 6-1), which battered three Harvard pitchers for 21 hits. Harvard is 6-12, 2-5.
