PREP ROUNDUP : Saddleback Wins Protested Game, 7-4

Saddleback High School defeated Corona del Mar, 7-4, on Monday in a Sea View League baseball game that was resumed in the sixth inning after Saddleback’s protest was upheld last week by the Southern Section.

The protested game was played April 20, with Corona del Mar leading, 5-3. Saddleback Coach John Young protested that the Sea Kings had made illegal substitutions.

When the game was resumed Monday, host Corona del Mar held a 4-2 lead. Saddleback (11-12, 6-7) took the lead in the sixth on David Madrid’s three-run home run. The Roadrunners also scored twice in the seventh.

With the victory, Saddleback moves into a third-place tie in the league with Estancia.

In the Freeway League tennis finals at Fullerton College:

Chris Hartshorn of Fullerton defeated Davey Robbins of Sunny Hills, 6-4, 6-4, for the singles title. Pat Um and Sameer Gavankar of Sunny Hills defeated Bobby Valayati and Brian Brennan of Fullerton, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3, for the doubles title.

In Southern Section’s Southern and Northern regional golf:

Dana Hills won the Southern Regional title with a team score of 401 at El Niguel and will advance to the Southern Section finals. Also advancing is Estancia, which finished second (404 points), and Laguna Hills, which was third (411).

In the Northern Regionals at Olivas Park in Ventura, Sunny Hills tied Westlake for first place with 371 points.
