COMMUNITY COLLEGE SOFTBALL ROUNDUP : Cypress in State Tournament for Second Consecutive Season

Sally Dugas pitched a two-hitter to lead Cypress College to a 3-0 victory over Grossmont in the second round of the Southern California softball playoffs Sunday at Cypress.

Cypress (40-6) advances to the state tournament for the second consecutive season.

Cypress, the Orange Empire Conference champion, begins play in the eight-team double-elimination tournament Friday at Sunnyvale.

Cypress scored twice in the fifth and once in the seventh. Rose Ferrante walked and scored on a triple by Tricia Barr, who scored on a wild pitch.

Dugas had an RBI single to score Alicia Bokano in the seventh.

In other playoff action:

Golden West 5-1, Orange Coast 0-0 (second game, 10 innings)--Tara Snyder’s sacrifice fly in the 10th inning completed a sweep for visiting Golden West (33-14), which advances to the state tournament. Susan Walters walked, was sacrificed to second and went to third on an infield single before scoring the winning run on Snyder’s fly ball.

Orange Coast won, 1-0, Saturday to take a one-game lead in the best-of-three series.

Lisa Kaufman (21-7) pitched a one-hitter in the first game, a two-out single by Kellie Newcombe in the sixth inning, and got the victory in relief in the second game. Kristin Heizer (27-9) lost both games for OCC (33-13).
