Cal Lutheran remained alive in the double-elimination NAIA Area 1 baseball tournament with a pair of wins Friday and set up a duel for the championship today with Lewis & Clark.
Cal Lutheran opened the day by beating Whitworth, 5-1, and came back with a 4-3 win over Hawaii Pacific, which had beaten the Kingsmen in their opener Thursday.
Freshman right-hander Tim Wimbish (7-2) scattered 10 hits in a complete-game win over Hawaii Pacific (24-21).
Dan Weis had a two-run double in the first, and then threw what would have been the tying run out at the plate to end the eighth.
In the first game, Cal Lutheran’s Bob Farber was two for five with two runs scored, and senior left-hander Kevin O’Neill (7-3) limited Whitworth (19-19) to four hits.
Cal Lutheran (34-15) will play Lewis & Clark (30-13) at noon. If Cal Lutheran wins, the deciding game will be played 30 minutes after the completion of the first.
