In other 2-A quarterfinals:

San Pasqual 1, Valhalla 0--Dave Vejtasa (5-5) pitched a two-hitter and scored the game’s only run in the second on a ground out to second by Jeff Thomas. Vejtasa and Ben Duncan led off the inning with singles and moved to second and third on an errant pickoff attempt. Greg Woodard allowed just five hits but took the loss for Valhalla (14-14-1). San Pasqual improved to 15-9-1.

Grossmont 11, La Jolla 2--Top-seeded Grossmont (26-2) had little trouble with La Jolla (13-13). The Foothillers had three home runs, and Danny Lennon (9-1) allowed just two hits and no runs in six innings. The home runs were by Todd Cady (his ninth), John Tatum (11) and Lennon (three). Grossmont will play host to Escondido in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

San Diego 8, San Marcos 5--Kian Sly went two for three with three RBIs for No. 3 San Diego (18-7) in a game that featured eight errors. San Marcos finished 14-12.

Coronado 6, Santana 5--Paul Carter’s two-run homer highlighted a four-run fifth that put Coronado (18-8-1) on top for good. Still, the Islanders had to survive a one-out, bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh. Starter Jason Fledderjohn pitched out of it by getting Chris Hastings to hit a pop up that Fledderjohn himself caught and by getting Chad Barry to ground out to short. Santana finished at 20-7. Coronado plays at San Diego in the quarterfinals.

Oceanside 3, Madison 1--Kenya Hunt’s three-run homer with one out in the bottom of the eighth won it for Oceanside (21-9-1). Andrew Acevedo (9-1) scattered seven hits, struck out eight and walked one in picking up the victory. Oceanside will play host to Clairemont in the quarterfinals.

Clairemont 6, USDHS 5--Clairemont (17-12) upset No. 2 USDHS (24-5) with three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings. Clairemont’s Dave Salonius and Jesus Jauregui were three for four and Craig Goodwin two for two with two RBIs. Pitcher Oscar Sanchez improved to 11-6.
