El Camino Real Wins Another Softball Title

For all intents and purposes, El Camino Real High needed only two innings Thursday to claim its third consecutive City Section 4-A Division softball title and seventh in the past eight years.

The Conquistadores scored twice in each of the first two innings en route to an 8-3 victory over West Valley League rival Chatsworth at Cal State Northridge.

Alisha Knopf had two hits and two runs batted in and Jenny Fleming added three singles and an RBI for El Camino Real (23-3). Chatsworth finished at 13-6.

Southern Section softball titles in five divisions will be settled this weekend at Mayfair Park in Long Beach. Friday in the 2-A Division, top-seeded Santa Fe plays Hesperia at 6 p.m. followed by Garden Grove vs. Charter Oak in the 4-A title game at 8.

Saturday’s games begin at 10 a.m. with the Small Schools Division game between Templeton and Maricopa. Agoura and Paraclete play for the 1-A title at 2:30 p.m., followed by the 3-A final between El Toro and Don Lugo at 5:30 p.m. Top-seeded Marina meets Newbury Park in the 5-A game at 8 p.m.
