Bob Ferry resigned Tuesday after 17 years as general manager of the Washington Bullets, who missed the NBA playoffs the last two seasons and have not advanced past the first round since 1982.

Ferry, 53, took over the Bullets’ basketball operations in 1973 and has been associated with the franchise for 26 years.

Ferry’s son, Danny, was the first-round pick of the Clippers, and second overall in 1989, but he played in Italy.
