More than 100 firefighters Tuesday put out the last of the fires that charred thousands of acres in north central San Diego County.
After nearly a week, California Department of Forestry officials said the Lake Henshaw fire was out, after burning across more than 4,350 acres. Seventy-five firefighters and a helicopter were used to complete the task. “They’re just mopping up today,” CDF spokeswoman Carol Stein said.
The most recent fire, which began Monday afternoon and destroyed two sheds and a travel trailer north of Lake Wohlford, burned 125 acres before being contained yesterday. Sixty firefighters finished off that fire, Stein said.
Meanwhile, firefighters contained an early-afternoon brush fire near Eastgate Mall at the intersection of Interstate 805 and Mira Mesa Boulevard. No buildings were threatened, and only 3 acres burned, San Diego Fire Department spokesman Jon McDonald said.
