Former Trojan Holt Out for Season
Rookie fullback Leroy Holt of the Miami Dolphins will miss the 1990 season because of a broken vertebra at the base of his neck, but doctors said Friday his injury could easily have been worse.
“I feel like a blessed man,” the 5-foot-10, 224-pound player from USC said. “Doctors told me I would have been paralyzed if I was a little scrawny guy. I had a big (spinal) canal. Thank God.”
The hairline break between Holt’s fourth and fifth vertebrae is such that doctors assured him his career has not ended.
Holt was injured July 31 when he collided head-on with linebacker John Offerdahl during a drill.
