Batbusters Advance in National Softball
Fountain Valley’s Batbusters won their third-round game Friday to advance to the quarterfinals of the American Softball Assn. national tournament in Lodi.
The Batbusters defeated the Pennsylvania Gems, 12-0, in a five-inning game that was stopped because of the 10-run-lead mercy rule. The Batbusters used 15 of 18 players on the team and were led by Orange County Times Player of the Year Paige Lauby, who played for El Toro High School last season and will attend North Carolina this fall.
Lauby was the winning pitcher, allowing one hit and striking out seven. Gillian Boxx of South Torrance led the Batbusters offensively with a two-run home run in the second inning.
The Batbusters will play the Sacramento City Girls at 2 p.m. today.
