Sylmar d. Verdugo Hills, 15-4, 15-9, 15-5--Andrea Cervantes had 13 aces and seven assists to pace host Sylmar in a non-league season opener for both teams.
Birmingham d. Cleveland, 15-5, 15-9, 15-8--Junior Tina Larson had five kills and seven aces and teammate Meredith Lewis had six kills for host Birmingham in a non-league season opener for both teams.
Laurie Laboschin added three kills and six aces for the winners.
El Camino Real d. University, 15-2, 15-3, 15-5--Rachel Berger had 13 kills and teammate Jennifer Dinaberg added 10 kills for host El Camino Real in a non-league season opener.
