Simon Brown, the IBF welterweight champion, may fight four-time champion Roberto Duran, boxing promoters said.
But one hurdle that must be negotiated is Brown’s infighting with his promoter, Don Elbaum. Brown is said to be courted by other promoters, and Elbaum has threatened to sue him if he signs elsewhere. Elbaum announced a series of three fights capped by a Duran-Brown matchup next spring.
Elbaum said Brown and Duran, 39, would be co-featured against different opponents on a non-title fight card either Nov. 27 or Dec. 4 at the District of Columbia Armory in Washington.
