Capistrano Valley Thrashes Corona for Third Victory

Quarterback Tony Solliday and his No. 2-ranked Capistrano Valley teammates got untracked in the second half here Friday night, scoring 28 points to bury Corona, 43-0, in a nonleague game.

Solliday completed 11 of 12 passes for 190 yards and three touchdowns in the first 13 minutes of the second half. On the opening drive of the third quarter, Solliday threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Dave Poltl for a 22-0 lead with 8 minutes 34 seconds left.

After an interception by Cougar safety Matt Call, Solliday drove Capistrano Valley (4-0) 39 yards in five plays, hitting Scott Patton for an eight-yard score.

Solliday finished 17 of 21 for 190 yards. Poltl was his leading receiver, catching nine for 106 yards.

The Cougars compiled only 85 total yards in a sluggish first half. Jeremy Brion scored on runs of one and nine yards to give the Cougars a 15-0 margin at the intermission.

Capistrano Valley held Corona (1-1-1) to 140 total yards.
