Woodbridge coaches kept yelling, “Find a way,” from the sidelines and the Warriors finally did when Jake Jacobs plowed three yards over left tackle with 2:54 left in Friday’s game to give Woodbridge a 23-22 victory over Trabuco Hills.

Woodbridge, which trailed, 22-10, after three quarters, began its comeback after junior linebacker Bron George suffered a neck injury with a little more than nine minutes remaining.

The Warriors (1- 2) forced a Trabuco Hills fumble and recovered at the Mustang 42. Seven plays later, James Wyatt threw 13 yards to Julian Johnson for the touchdown. Brian Nurick’s extra point made the score 22-17 with 5:05 left to play.

The Woodbridge defense again rose to the occasion when it forced another fumble, giving the Warriors the ball on the Trabuco Hills’ 30 with 4:24 left.

On that possession, Wyatt gained a yard on first down. On the next play, Wyatt completed a pass to Jacobs, who immediately pitched back to Johnson, who ran 11 yards for a first down at the 18.

Two plays later, Johnson caught a Wyatt pass for 11 yards, putting the ball at the three-yard line and setting up Jacobs’ touchdown run.

The Mustangs (1-1-1) had one chance to score after forcing Woodbridge to punt with 54 seconds remaining.

The Mustangs took the ball at their own 37, but saw their hopes end when Scott Soong intercepted Shane Weintraut’s pass with 35 seconds left.
