Valley College Chosen as Site for State Tournament

Valley College will be the host of the 1991 women’s junior college state basketball tournament, Valley Coach Doug Michelson said.

From Feb. 28-March 2 the school will welcome eight teams advancing from regional tournaments. Valley replaces College of the Canyons as host. Canyons officials could not be reached for comment on the change in site.

Peter Micelli, a 6-foot-8 freshman center from Beverly Hills High, will redshirt this season at Cal State Northridge, basketball Coach Pete Cassidy said.

“We recruited him with that in mind,” Cassidy said. “We discussed it with him and his parents. He is very young, still 17. He needs to build his body.”

Kelly Tremmell will redshirt this cross-country season, leaving CSUN with only two runners from last year’s women’s team. Tremmell, who finished 15th last year in the NCAA Division II championships, faces time constraints due to school and work, according to Coach Don Strametz.
