HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Camp Kilpatrick Romps After 35-Point Quarter

Visiting Camp Kilpatrick blew open a Freedom League football game with 34 second-quarter points and beat Twin Pines, 60-6, Thursday.

For Camp Kilpatrick, Michael Black ran for 147 yards in 11 carries and scored one touchdown, Bobby Wilson rushed six times for 99 yards and one touchdown and Calvin Hodges ran seven times for 62 yards.

Camp Kilpatrick (3-3-1, 1-1) held Twin Pines to four yards rushing and 15 yards passing in the second half.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Grant d. Birmingham, 5-2--Alice Lee and Dana Howerton each won singles matches to pace visiting Grant (8-2, 5-0) to a key Valley Pac-8 Conference win over Birmingham (4-1 in league play).

Lee defeated Lorena Cruz, 8-4, and Howerton defeated Robyn Kamosher, 8-5, as the Lancers broke a tie for first place.

Chaminade d. Louisville, 12-6--Laura Gross won all three singles matches and Jennifer Bromiley and Jill Hudson swept their three doubles matches to boost Chaminade to 7-0 in Mission League play.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Thousand Oaks d. Channel Islands, 15-1, 15-1, 15-7--Amy Stone had seven kills and Kaili Kimura added five to lead host Thousand Oaks to a Marmonte League victory.

Ann Henige, Cindy McKinnon, Erikka Gulbranson and Tiffany O’Beirne added four kills apiece for Thousand Oaks (13-1, 10-0), which is ranked fifth in the Southern Section 5-A Division and has won 13 consecutive matches.

Newbury Park d. Simi Valley, 15-9, 15-8, 15-9--Lori Muzzonegro had 14 kills and Jenny Cameron added nine to lead host Newbury Park (8-3, 7-3) in a Marmonte League match.

Royal d. Westlake, 15-6, 15-1, 15-6--Jennifer Hamilton had 12 kills and Wende Brown added 10 to lead Westlake (11-1, 9-1) in a Marmonte League match at Westlake.

Notre Dame d. Chaminade, 15-6, 15-9, 15-10--As it begins the second round of Mission League play, Notre Dame, ranked No. 2 in the Southern Section 4-A Division, has yet to lose a game in a league match. Mary Strong had 13 kills and setter Shannon Tuttle had 27 assists for Notre Dame (10-2, 6-0).

Oak Park d. Bishop Diego, 15-6, 13-15, 15-11, 12-15, 15-4--Kristine Butler had 18 kills and six stuff blocks for Oak Park (8-4, 4-2) in a Tri-Valley League match. Stefanie Dell added 13 kills.

Burroughs d. San Gabriel, 15-3, 15-1, 5-15, 15-11--Jennifer Wagner had 25 kills and Jeanie Russell had 14 assists to pace host Burroughs (13-1, 6-0) in a Foothill League match.

Kennedy d. Cleveland, 15-8, 15-2, 12-15, 15-12--Oriana Cavallaro had five kills and Anna Timchenko added four blocks for Kennedy (5-5, 3-3) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Kennedy.

Chatsworth d. Taft, 15-10, 15-9, 15-3--Lisa Koven had eight kills and Marsha Gekhtman added six for Chatsworth (8-1, 5-1 in Northwest Valley Conference play). Visiting Taft (7-3, 4-3) was led by Sarah White’s 11 kills.

El Camino Real d. Reseda, 15-4, 15-4, 15-2--Hellen Hong had 10 kills and Jennifer Dinaberg had six aces for host El Camino Real (9-0, 6-0) in a Northwest Valley Conference match.

Alhambra d. Hart, 15-7, 15-12, 15-13--Carol Gruhlke led Hart (5-6, 2-4) with seven kills in a Foothill League match at Alhambra.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Royal 20, Westlake 5--Royal, No. 8 in the Southern Section 3-A Division, had little difficulty stretching its Marmonte League winning streak to 47 matches with a home victory. Nine players scored for Royal (15-3, 6-0). Will Spencer had four goals, and Tim Treglown added three.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Birmingham 27, Monroe 30--The Vikings almost surprised the three-time Valley Pac-8 Conference champion in a Mid-Valley League meet at Pierce College.

Monroe’s Bobby Wiley won in 15 minutes 50 seconds.
