Locke 20, South Gate 13--Senior tailback Antoine Redmond rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown in 16 carries to lead the Saints to a Central League victory at Locke. Redmond missed two games this season with a hip injury.

Courtney Bell added 68 yards in 14 carries in helping Locke compile 220 yards rushing.

The Saints (3-1, 5-1), leading 14-13 in the fourth quarter, added another score when Bobby Savannah teamed with Rockey Tribble on a 50-yard pass play with 4:58 remaining.

South Gate is 3-2 and 3-3.

Fairfax 28, Los Angeles 14--Milo Bynum returned a blocked field-goal attempt 99 yards in the first quarter to help Lions (3-0, 5-0) remain unbeaten in a Coastal Conference game at Fairfax.

Senior tailback Mario Mattison, who led Fairfax with 96 yards rushing and a touchdown in 10 carries, blocked the kick returned by Bynum.

Fairfax is 1-1, 2-3.

Birmingham 21, Grant 13--Darrel Moore scored twice and gained 95 yards in 22 carries for the Braves in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Grant.

Birmingham quarterback Vince Lampkin rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown, but left the game in the second quarter with a sprained left ankle. His replacement, Noah Kirshbaum, completed five of 13 passes for 62 yards.

Grant (3-3, 1-2) scored two touchdowns in the third quarter, but Eddy Moreno’s conversion kick after the second touchdown was wide, enabling the Braves to maintain a 14-13 lead.

Moore scored on another two-yard plunge 38 seconds into the fourth quarter, and Birmingham (4-1, 2-0) held on for the win.

Lincoln 49, Verdugo Hills 0--Brothers Gaspar and Marcelo Ortega combined for five touchdowns and Lincoln’s defense forced five turnovers in a Northern Conference game at Verdugo Hills.

Senior quarterback Gaspar Ortega completed 11 of 20 passes for 189 yards and four touchdowns, including two 18-yard pass plays to his brother. Gaspar Ortega’s other touchdown pass plays covered 50 and four yards. Gaspar also kicked five extra points.

In addition to his two touchdown receptions, Marcelo Ortega, scored on a 10-yard run.

Lincoln tailback Roland Peters led all rushers with 142 yards and a touchdown in 10 carries.

Lincoln is 2-1 and 4-1-1. Verdugo Hills is 0-3 and 0-6.
