Dawson’s Fourth-Quarter Work Brings Cypress From Behind, 15-7

As senior tailback Bryan Dawson goes, so goes the Cypress High School football team.

It took Dawson a little while to hit full steam Friday night, but when he did, he led Cypress to a 15-7 comeback victory over host El Dorado in an Empire League game at Valencia High.

Dawson ran for 64 of his 124 yards in the fourth quarter, scoring both Cypress touchdowns during the final period.

“The left side of our line blocked real well, and Bryan ran real hard, like he always does,” Cypress Coach John Selbe said.

Dawson scored the first Cypress touchdown on a blast up the middle from a yard out on the first play of the fourth quarter, then ran through a huge hole for the two-point conversion.

Dawson set up his next touchdown with a 26-yard run to the one, darting around a referee at midfield. On the next play, he skipped over the right side for the final touchdown.

El Dorado (1-6, 0-2 in league) got a four-yard touchdown run and 43 hard-nosed yards out of tailback Bryan Warner.

Cypress improved to 3-4, 1-1 in league.
