ROUNDUP : Royal Nears Water Polo Title, 10-5

Mike Radka scored four goals and teammate Will Spencer added three, but it was goalie Paul Krueger who propelled Royal High to a 10-5 victory over host Agoura in a Marmonte League water polo match Friday.

With the win Royal (18-3, 8-0 in league play) clinched a share of the league title. It was the Highlanders’ 36th victory in a row in league play. Royal can win its 10th consecutive undisputed title with a victory over Thousand Oaks on Wednesday.

Krueger had nine saves, stopped a penalty shot and helped kept the Chargers (6-2 in league play) at bay during a 35-second stretch of the second period when Agoura had a two-man advantage.

Trailing, 4-2, at halftime, Agoura tied the score, 4-4, midway through the third period, but Royal scored six of the last seven goals to win.

In other high school water polo matches:

Harvard 21, El Segundo 8--Lance Weidner scored five goals and Jim Toring added four for host Harvard (18-6, 6-1) in a San Fernando Valley League match.

Goalie Antonio Gomez shut El Segundo down with 12 saves. Harvard is ranked fourth in the Southern Section 3-A Division.

Crespi 22, La Salle 2--Vince Greco scored a match-high six goals, Rusty King scored four and T. J. Greene added three for Crespi in the San Fernando Valley League match at La Salle.

The win was the fifth in a row for the Celts (20-2, 6-1).

MEN’S WATER POLO

Valley 13, Santa Monica 11--Robert Brown and Nick Kaufman each scored four goals for host Valley (8-6, 4-3) in a Western State Conference match.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Sherman Oaks CES d. Valley Alternative, 15-7, 15-11--Visiting Sherman Oaks grabbed a share of a three-way tie for the Magnet League regular-season championship by sweeping Valley Alternative. Sherman Oaks, Westside Alternative and King Drew all finished 7-3.

MEN’S SOCCER

Moorpark 3, Bakersfield 1--Richie Rungaitis, Eric Gunter and Billy Kranz scored goals for visiting Moorpark (13-0, 8-0) in the Western State Conference match.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Azusa Pacific 2, Cal Lutheran 0--Cal Lutheran (11-5, 0-3) was mathematically eliminated from the NAIA regional tournament race with the District 3 loss at Azusa Pacific.

Cal Lutheran’s Rachel Wackerman, who has 28 goals, was limited to one shot.
