JUNIOR COLLEGE SOCCER : Moorpark Loses in State Final
East Los Angeles College became the first undefeated state junior college men’s soccer champion when it downed Moorpark, 1-0, in the final match Sunday at Chabot College in Hayward.
The teams played through a scoreless first half before Julio Umana scored the match’s only goal with less than 10 minutes remaining. He picked up a pass from Adolfo Carranza, dribbled into the penalty area and beat Moorpark goalie Mike Zemansky with a shot into the right corner of the net at the 36-minute, 40-second mark.
It was the 100th goal of the season for East Los Angeles (25-0), which outshot Moorpark 20-14. Zemansky had six saves.
Western State Conference champion Moorpark (18-2) had advanced to the championship match with a 4-0 victory over Fresno City College on Saturday.
