Antelope Valley Cruises, 139-86

J. R. Rider had 37 points and 16 rebounds to lead visiting Antelope Valley College to a 139-86 rout of Rio Hondo in a Foothill Conference game Monday.

Five players scored in double figures for Antelope Valley, which led, 78-49, at halftime and improved to 9-3 overall, 2-0 in conference play. Rio Hondo is 1-11, 0-2.

Tony Madison (27 points), Ennis Wesley (20), LeVan Lide (19) and Bucky Tucker (18) were among 10 players who scored for Antelope Valley. BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Cleveland 110, Mid-City Alternative 73--Brandon Martin scored a game-high 29 points and Kenny Collins added 28 in the first round of the L. A. Invitational.

Cleveland (5-2) played without 6-5 senior starter Kayheed Murray, who was suspended for one game for disciplinary reasons. Carlos Vasquez added 19 points and Mike Sutyak added 12 for Cleveland, which led, 57-34, at halftime.

Long Beach Poly 81, Royal 60--Long Beach Poly used a 26-15 third-quarter scoring advantage to extend a 36-32 halftime lead in the first round of the Bosco Tech tournament.

Kevin Hambly had 13 points and nine rebounds for Royal (7-2), whose six-game winning streak was snapped. Royal’s Greg Gray scored 12 points, and David Tyner and Aaron Kammerman each had 10.

Monroe 110, Sylmar 61--Ronald Falls had 29 points and 15 rebounds, Elmer Singh had 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Stanley Deal scored 20 points for Monroe (5-2, 2-3) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

North Hollywood 68, Birmingham 53--Eric Jackson had 16 points and nine rebounds, and Robert Hill scored 16 points for North Hollywood in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game. Fernando Orozco added 12 points for North Hollywood.

Maurice Spiller scored 17, and David Garden had 15 and eight rebounds for Birmingham (0-6, 0-4).

Grant 101, Canoga Park 42--Brunell Mori had 15 points, 21 rebounds and eight assists for host Grant (5-1, 4-2), which led, 50-14, at halftime of a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

David Knight (14 points), Eric Brown (13), Sean McMahon (12) and Tyler Butlind (11) were among 11 Grant players who scored.

Van Nuys 62, Poly 61--Michael Crawford scored 18 points, and Javiar Franco and Eugene Hatch each added 12 for Van Nuys in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game at Poly (2-4, 2-2). Steve McCann had 17 points and 14 rebounds for Poly.

Hoover 61, Santa Paula 42--Dave Ulloa scored 18 points and Gabe Alvarado added 14 for Hoover (5-2) in a first-round game at the Bosco Tech tournament. George Albanez scored 13 points for Santa Paula (3-2).

Eagle Rock 69, Sherman Oaks CES 55--Mitch Shenkin scored 19 points to lead Sherman Oaks in a nonleague game at Eagle Rock (5-3). John Cannon and Khalif Muhammed each scored 11 for Sherman Oaks CES.

Faith Baptist 82, Maranatha 69--Peter Rasmussen had 27 points and 16 rebounds to lead Faith Baptist (6-2) in a nonleague game. Alex Estrada had 21 points and seven assists, Darren Wyer scored 14 points, and Fernando Garcia added 13 for Faith Baptist.

North Hollywood 104, Birmingham 35--Jacinda Sweet scored 19 points to lead five Huskies in double figures in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Suzi Shimoyama had 18 points, seven steals and six assists, and Karma Goodman had 16 points and 14 rebounds for North Hollywood (8-2, 5-0).

Tracie Harris scored 14 points for Birmingham (3-2 in conference play).

Alemany 57, Kennedy 37--Sara Guziel scored 18 points and Rachel Corelli added 13 for Alemany (5-5) in a nonleague game. Shaneya Harris had 15 points and Chris Otha added 11 for Kennedy.

Canoga Park 76, Grant 64--Colleen Pratt scored 27 points, and Soo Yoon had 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead host Canoga Park (5-2, 4-1) in a Valley Pac-8 Conference game.

Glendale Academy 53, West Valley Christian 16--Linda Puni scored 15 points and Heidi Serena added 11 for host Glendale Academy (3-2) in a nonleague game.
