HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP : Reseda Beats El Camino Real to Clinch Tie for West Valley Title

Marquis Burns scored 24 points to help Reseda High defeat host El Camino Real, 70-61, Thursday and clinch a tie for the West Valley League championship.

Reseda (10-9, 5-3 in league play) led most of the way behind balanced scoring. Ian Crawford led the Regents with 13 points.

El Camino Real (10-8, 3-5) cut Reseda’s lead to two points in the fourth quarter, but lost Jaffers Bailey with five minutes to play when he fouled out. Bailey, a 6-foot-5 junior center, had 27 points and 12 rebounds.

In other boys’ basketball games:

Cleveland 61, Kennedy 42--Cleveland clinched at least a share of its third consecutive North Valley League title behind Brandon Martin’s 16 points. Cleveland (17-5, 8-0) led, 58-28, after three quarters. Athesis Harris scored 14 points for Kennedy (9-12, 3-6).

Locke 60, Canoga Park 55--The Hunters (7-15) trailed by 21 points at halftime in a nonleague game.

Chatsworth 67, San Fernando 41--Tim Myles had 12 points, but the host Tigers (5-16, 0-8) lost a West Valley League game.

Burroughs 64, Burbank 60--Chris Suarez scored a team-high 16 points for visiting Burroughs (10-10, 4-4) in the Foothill League game. Jon Warner scored 17 points for Burbank (6-14, 1-7).

Camp Kilpatrick 101, St. John’s 73--Marlon Randolph scored 25 points in a nonleague game.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Rio Mesa 71, Dos Pueblos 17--Guard Marion Jones scored 33 points and added eight steals in the Channel League victory at Rio Mesa. Rio Mesa had 30 steals.

Buena 72, Oxnard 36--Guard Lianne Ishikawa had 18 points, eight assists and 10 steals for Buena in a Channel League game. Mia Palkie also had 18 points and Jennifer Wells added 15.

Granada Hills 43, Taft 41--Karen Berkowitz scored 19 points for the Highlanders (17-4, 5-3) in a West Valley League game.

Kennedy 57, Cleveland 42--Shaneya Harris scored 29 points to lead Kennedy in a West Valley League game at Cleveland.

Thousand Oaks 83, Royal 29--Michelle Palmisano played slightly more than a half and led Thousand Oaks (22-1, 11-0) with 24 points.

Glendale 43, Pasadena 24--Jennifer Dalton had 11 points and 11 rebounds to lead Glendale (15-5, 7-0) in a Pacific League game.

Hart 69, Schurr 48--Anjanette Dionne had 25 points, nine assists and five steals to lead Hart (20-4, 7-1) to a Foothill League win.

BOYS’ SOCCER

Birmingham 1, Grant 0--Tony Serpas scored and Birmingham (8-2-3, 7-1-1) took over first place in the Valley Pac-8 Conference with the win over visiting Grant (10-1-2, 6-1-2).
