The San Diego State Aztecs have received oral commitments from three more high school football players, including a linebacker from Shreveport, La., and the back of the year in the San Joaquin Athletic Assn. in Stockton.

The commitments are from Fred Harris, a 6-foot-3, 210-pound linebacker from Woodlawn High School in Shreveport, La.; Joe Abdullah, a 6-0, 200-pound running back from St. Mary’s High (Stockton); and Tony Giacolone, a 6-6, 250-pound defensive lineman from Mira Mesa High.

Abdullah rushed for 1,623 yards--the third-best single-season total ever in the San Joaquin Athletic Assn.--and 19 touchdowns last fall.

“I liked the way they treated me, and the area,” Abdullah said. “I liked situation for me playing there. They’re a team on the rise, and they play good competition.”

Giacolone chose SDSU without taking any other visits.

“He’s very quick for a big guy,” Mira Mesa Coach Brad Griffith said. “He runs very well. He could put on another 25 or 30 pounds, and still not lose any of his quickness.”

Meanwhile, Kevin Jones, a 6-2, 245-pound defensive lineman from South Torrance High, will walk onto the SDSU team this fall but has not been offered a scholarship. Jones was the lineman of the year in the Pioneer League.

The first day high school players can sign national letters of intent is Wednesday.

Robbie Edwards, a 6-1, 195-pound running back from Mira Mesa High, has orally committed to the U.S. Naval Academy. Edwards gained about 1,700 yards for the Marauders last season.

“He’s a good athlete--the type of kid who potentially could be tremendous,” Mira Mesa Coach Brad Griffith said. “He’s got to improve his work ethic, but he’s got raw talent.”
