School: La Habra High Sport: Basketball Position: Forward Class: Senior

Ferguson was a starter on La Habra’s volleyball team that won consecutive Southern Section and state championships but her best sport is basketball and now she is aiming to help the Highlanders to a Southern Section title in that sport. Ferguson, 5 feet 11, is one of three strong inside players for La Habra--the others are sisters Ana (6-1) and Zrinka Kristich (6-5)--but she holds her own. She and Zrinka each averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds during the regular season. “You don’t get lost in the shuffle,” La Habra Coach John Koehler said. “You get more caught up in the teamwork and doing what you have to do to win.” Ferguson, who was the Freeway League’s most valuable player last season, prefers inside play but has developed an effective mid-range jump shot that makes her even more of an offensive threat. Tuesday, Ferguson scored 24 points in a 58-44 victory over Righetti. Saturday, she scored 17 points and La Habra defeated Valencia, 43-25, in the quarterfinals.

Other top performers:

Olivia DiCamilli, who scored 36 points in Costa Mesa’s 75-50 victory over Yucca Valley in the Division III--A playoffs.

Karen Kolodziej, who scored a goal for Los Alamitos in the final seconds of sudden death overtime in a 1-0 victory over Royal in the Division 4-A soccer playoffs. Kolodziej has scored both the Griffins’ goals in two playoff victories.
