COMMUNITY COLLEGE BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Cypress Scores Early and Often in 14-3 Victory

Cypress scored three runs in the first inning, three more in the second, and seven in the third and went on to a 14-3 victory over Saddleback in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday in Mission Viejo.

Troy Babbitt had two hits, drove in four and scored three runs. He hit a two-run home run in the first inning, his third of the season. Kevin Cook had two hits and two RBIs, including a bases-empty home run in the fifth.

Doug McConathy had two hits and two RBIs, each coming on a second-inning triple. He also had a double. Rob Utz had a three-run triple in the third for Cypress (10-4, 1-1). Robert Legendre (2-0) pitched six innings for the victory.

Eric Schreifels had two hits, including a double, for Saddleback (5-7, 0-2).

In other Orange Empire Conference games:

Fullerton 18, Orange Coast 9--Kenney Humphrey had three hits, including his first home run, and three RBIs, Joe Perez had three hits and three RBIs, and Sal Mancuso two hits and four RBIs for the Hornets (14-5, 2-0). Tom Wilson hit his sixth home run for Fullerton.

Greg Fife had three hits and an RBI for Orange Coast (11-4-1, 1-1).

Rancho Santiago 7, Golden West 0--Paul O’Hearn (4-0) pitched a four-hitter with five strikeouts for host Rancho Santiago (16-3, 2-0). Robin Lindsey hit a bases-empty home run, his third, in the seventh inning. He had three hits and two RBIs.

Octavio Medina had a hit and two RBIs, and Raul Rodarte had two hits and an RBI for Rancho Santiago.
