ORANGE COUNTY ALL-STAR BASKETBALL GAME : Smith, McCluskey to Head Boys’ All-Star Squads
Richard Smith of Servite High School will coach the North team and Tom McCluskey of Tustin will coach the South in the 26th Orange County All-Star basketball game scheduled April 27 at Saddleback College.
Smith, 29, led Servite to a 22-11 record and the State Division III championship in his first season as varsity coach last year. Smith served as a varsity assistant for two years and was a sophomore coach at Servite before succeeding Larry Walker last year.
McCluskey led Tustin to the Southern Section’s Division III-A championship game in 1988, losing to Kennedy, 58-54, in overtime. The loss came in McCluskey’s first year at Tustin after a successful career at Fontana, where he coached University of Arizona star Sean Rooks.
Players for both teams will be selected Wednesday at the Irvine Marriott at a meeting of coaches and media members.
