Police are looking for a 20-year-old Santa Ana man in connection with the Jan. 24 gang shoot-out at Alona Park that left one person dead and two others wounded.

Hugo Albert Chavez of Santa Ana is wanted in connection with the shoot-out, in which two rival gangs squared off with each other, police spokeswoman Maureen Haacker said. Police, carrying an arrest warrant, went to Chavez’s home on Nottingham Avenue last month, but family members said he was not there.

A semiautomatic handgun was recovered from the home after a separate search warrant was served, Haacker said.

Chavez is believed to be a member of the Highland Street gang, Haacker said. A 17-year-old youth, who police say belonged to the same gang, was killed in the shoot-out.

Eleven people have already been arrested in connection with the incident, Haacker said.

Anyone with information should call the Santa Ana Police Gang Unit at (714) 647-5165 during the day or (714) 843-4801 after 5 p.m.
