COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Rancho Santiago Rolls Over Cypress, 14-4

Rancho Santiago scored seven runs in the fifth inning in a 14-4 rout of Cypress in an Orange Empire Conference baseball game Tuesday at Rancho Santiago College.

Mark Wasikowski hit a two-run homer in the second inning, his third of the year. Paul O’Hearn (6-0) allowed one earned run and struck out seven in six innings for the victory.

In other Orange Empire Conference baseball games:

Saddleback 8, Fullerton 6--Buster Nietzke scored on a first-and-third double steal and Eric Schreifels doubled in a run as visiting Saddleback (8-10, 2-5) broke a 6-6 tie in the seventh. Saddleback’s Rob Nye, who singled in the first inning, extended his hitting streak to 17 games and Zak Krislock (3-3) got the complete-game victory, allowing 11 hits, striking out seven and walking two. Fullerton is 15-9, 2-4.

Riverside 10, Orange Coast 9--Ray Cervantes’ single with one out in the ninth drove in the winning run and completed a two-run rally for host Riverside (17-6, 3-3). Orange Coast had taken leads of 5-0, 7-4 and 8-5, but a bases-loaded double by Shane Lymane tied the score, 8-8, in the eighth. Greg Fife hit a two-run home run for the Pirates (12-9-1, 1-6) in the seventh.

In nonconference baseball:

Southwestern 11, Golden West 9--After Southwestern took a 10-0 lead by scoring six in the fourth, host Golden West battled back, scoring four in the fifth. The Rustlers (10-8) scored two runs in the ninth but left runners on second and third to end the inning. Ben Mendoza had four hits, including his first home run of the year in the fifth inning, for the Rustlers.

In nonconference men’s volleyball:

Mt. San Antonio 3, Rancho Santiago 1--Wes Schneider had 16 kills and John Wiegand added 12, but host Rancho Santiago (1-8) lost, 15-9, 15-13, 5-15, 15-12.

In Orange Empire Conference women’s swimming:

Palomar 184, Cypress 76--Leslie Spry won the 50-meter butterfly (30.93) and 100 butterfly (1:06.75) and Shelley Sirott won the 100 individual medley (1:05.48) for Cypress.
