HIGH SCHOOL STATWATCH : West’s Gem Highlighted by 6-K Run

Thousand Oaks High senior Adam West struck out six consecutive batters during his one-hit performance in a 5-1 win over Bell Gardens on Friday.
West, a left-hander, finished with 12 strikeouts and lost both the no-hitter and shutout on a one-out single in the seventh.
Pitching: In his first varsity start, Channel Islands senior Ray Rangel retired the first 12 Loyola hitters in a complete-game, 10-3 victory.
Defense: Hart catcher Tom Wolff last week threw out three El Segundo runners attempting to steal. . . . Sylmar committed just two errors in its four games--then made five in its fifth game.
Batting: Notre Dame catcher Louie Tapia has five hits in three games--including two doubles, a triple and a home run. . . . Alemany pitcher Kevin Tate needs no designated-hitter. Thus far, he is four for five with seven runs batted in. . . . St. Genevieve scored 43 runs in its first two games, beating Campbell Hall, 21-1, and Little Rock, 22-7.
Softball: Crescenta Valley pitchers have allowed just two hits in two games in helping the Falcons to a 2-0 start. Becki Mixon threw a one-hitter and beat Flintridge Prep, 15-0, last week. Three days later, Stacy Atwood tossed a one-hitter and struck out 13 in a 7-1 win over Rosemead.
Hoover sophomore Nancy Evans, the Pacific League most valuable player in her freshman season, recorded 15 strikeouts in six innings in the Tornadoes’ 28-0 victory over San Marino on Saturday.
Alemany sophomore Tanya Ortiz (1-0) handled her first career start like a veteran last week: She pitched a no-hitter and struck out six in a 6-1 win over Burbank.
